Abstract
Tillandsia recurvata spreads easily in contaminated environments. At the
Technological University of Tula-Tepeji, 82 plants with severe damage
were identified, highlighting mesquite and huizache. Empirically, the
population treats the hay on the tree with commercial vinegar, 10%
baking soda and an equal mixture of both. The effectiveness of each
solution was tested on the huizaches with the following findings: Baking
soda (10%) and vinegar (5%) damage the trichomes of the plant,
affecting the uptake of water and particles and with them nutrients as well.
there is pH damage. 10% bicarbonate was more effective since the speck
deteriorated, presenting a dry appearance; However, one week after
completing the 9-week treatment, the hay began to recover. It is
recommended to apply mechanical treatment, supported by chemicals
with 10% sodium bicarbonate in times of drought.
