Abstract
Acute prolapse of giant submucous fibroid polyp is very rare. We share our experience of management of this case with polypectomy. Leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the uterus. Some submucousal myomas become pedunculated in the uterine cavity, dilate the cervix and protrude into the vagina. Also the myomas may become necrotic, infected and gangrenous due to inadequate blood circulation through a long pedicle or if the pedicle of leiomyoma twists. We report a case of acute prolapse of giant fibroid polyp which mimic’s uterine inversion. Giant fibroid polyp is a rare condition, it should be kept in mind as a differential diagnosis to mass per vaginum. Acute prolapse of giant submucosal fibroid polyp without any associated complications can be managed by polypectomy avoiding unnecessary hysterectomy.
