Abstract
We begin the New Year with a column by Andy Pitts on
Nominal Techniques.
Nominality -- the property of being nominal (as the dictionary defines it) -- refers to the use of names. Nominal techniques offer a method to define locality of variables in programming languages, for example. Andy's survey covers a wide range of applications, provides a brief history of the area, a state-of-the-art summary and a glimpse into issues that remain unresolved. Because the article is so thorough, there's not much to add to his discussion.
