Abstract
A number of experiments in teaching introductory programming courses in a cost effective manner have been conducted by the author using a personalized system of instruction. Languages experimented with included FORTRAN, COBOL AND PL/I. The problems of procrastination and non-completion of course work were partly overcome by the author's unique solutions to these problems.
