Abstract
With the advent of on-line real-time systems and the sophisticated operating systems which made time-sharing a reality, new methods of programming a computer system became available. A programmer can now sit at a remote terminal and develop, debug, or modify a program and receive instantaneious feedback on his work. It is no longer necessary to code and keypunch corrections, submit, and then wait a day or more for the results. Through near immediate turnaround, a programmer may reduce total elapsed time to a matter of hours rather than a matter of days or weeks.
