Abstract
In teaching univariate and multivariate statistical analysis with an emphasis on the general linear model to graduate students in the social sciences, APL provides an excellent vehicle by which the concepts and operations of matrix algebra can be illustrated and explored. Functions written in APL to carry out the computations of the statistical models which provide for display of intermediate results allow students to check the adequacy of the final results and to confirm numerically the characteristics of the various models. When the objectives of a course are to provide for a basic understanding of the linear models, the use of APL is considered superior to the use of most commercial statistical packages.
