Abstract
Video streaming is the core technology for online video delivery systems. Initial research on this technology faced many challenges. In this article, lessons learned from beginning trials are discussed; some pioneering works that provided early solutions and inspired subsequent research are presented; and new techniques required for emerging applications are examined.
