Abstract
The strategic database (SDB) is an integral part of a decision support system (DSS) developed to support the strategic planning process in organizations. This paper describes two approache to SDB design---the descriptive approach and the prescriptive approach. Its purpose is to examine the assumptions underlying both approaches and to note the tradeoffs involved in adopting one approach over the other.
