A new approach to modeling office documents

Abstract

This paper describes a data model that adopts a very natural view of modeling office documents. A document in the model is represented in a semi-structured form, called a frame instance. Different frame instances can be grouped into a folder. The paper presents an informal description of the algebraic language for retrieving frame instances from the folders. The proposed data model has been implemented into a personal document processing system. Some implementation techniques and the current status of the system are also reported.
