Abstract
Caring for the prisoner-patient has been noted to arouse several emotions due to its complexities. Thus in this article, the author highlights his personal experience with caring for a prisoner-patient using a reflexive ethnographic approach in which the self is the object of study. As the author examined the experiences, sources of conflict and areas requiring attention such as the need for nurses to acknowledge their feelings with the phenomenon and enhancing the availability of placement support systems are highlighted.
