Two new species of the genus Amphorotia (Bacillariophyta) from Lake Baikal (Eastern Siberia, Russia)

Abstract

In a sample taken by A. P. Skabitschewsky on 10 VII 1965 from bottom sediments surrounding the Ushkany Islands (Lake Baikal), the species Amphorotia baicalensis was found along with two new species described herein: Amphorotia skabitschewskii Glushchenko et Kulikovskiy, sp. nov. and Amphorotia skvortzowii Glushchenko et Kulikovskiy, sp. nov. All three are illustrated with light micrographs. A morphological description of the species and a comparison with similar taxa are given.
