Abstract
Research conducted by the author on the topic of children as map users points up inadequacies in existing research in the area, from both theoretical and empirical points of view. An approach to map design for children is proposed and it consists (in part) of creating maps that match visual arrays of graphic elements to intellectual arrays of intended spatial information and related specific map use tasks.
