Abstract
An electro-oculographic eye-movement recording system, utilizing equipment and expertise already in the University, is described. Its use is intended for cartographic research aimed at using the eye-brain perceptual system as an integrating device to assess subjects' visual and intellectual responses to a map, the reading environment, and the assigned task. Depending on the research questions asked, system output can be generated in a variety of ways. Problems of non-linearity and fixation definition are discussed ; a specific example of the latter is presented along with some specific strategies for its solution.
