Reuben Hill and the State of Family Sociology

Abstract

This paper has two foci: it is about Reuben Hill’s contributions to family sociology, and about the state of family sociology today. Hill’s contributions to family stress, developmental theory, theory development, and international family study are reviewed in some detail, along with briefer references to other areas in which he researched and wrote. The paper closes with a catalogue of later developments in the family field which he presaged; often with a single comment.
