The Colonial Climbs of Mount Trudeau: Thinking Masculinity through the Homosocial

Abstract

This paper juxtaposes the self defined elitism held within some mountaineering circles to the debate surrounding the failed renaming of Mount Logan. By considering male homosocial desire, this reading demonstrates that we cannot consider masculinity in Canadian leisure habits (and politics) without examining gender, race and sexuality.
