Abstract

Abstract: This August marks the centenary of the beginning of the First World War. While the 2013 Speech from the Throne announced that the Government of Canada would be “commemorating the centennial of the First World War,” the anniversary will also be an occasion for others to discuss the war, its significance both in Canada and abroad, and the ways in which it has been studied, remembered, and forgotten over the intervening century. This discussion will bring together historians, the general public interested in the past, and the broader heritage community. As 2014 unfolds, new resources will be made available, such as the thematic website already launched by the Dictionary of Canadian Bibliography ( http://www.biographi.ca/en/theme_first_world_war.html ). Later this year we will be publishing our own forum on Canadian historians and the First World War. The Canadian Historical Review has always been part of this conversation. Since its first issue in 1920, nearly forty articles have appeared in the journal directly related to the war. They reflect general trends in Canadian and international historiography; indeed, the range of topics and methodologies is impressive. The history of the war and how historians have studied and taught it is, in no small measure, also the history of the CHR. The University of Toronto Press and the chr are pleased to be able to bring this collection of scholarship to our readers and the general public. All the articles listed in this bibliography are Open Access. You will find the bibliography complete with hyperlinks to each article on our website at http://dx.doi.org/10.3138/chr.95.1.97 . We invite you to explore these articles and look forward to seeing how commemoration and new trends in scholarship will inspire future work in the Canadian Historical Review. Happy reading.
