Abstract
The article deals with issues related to solving the theoretical and methodological foundations of the involvement of students of general education schools in sports in extracurricular groups. Reforming the educational process of physical culture in a general education school requires improvement of the process of extracurricular work which should be a continuation of physical culture lessons and is aimed at realizing the health-improving function of schoolchildren. The physical culture teacher at school has a task to make the process of physical education continuous. This means that the teacher does not have the right to limit his activities to individual episodic physical education activities or to involve other people in this process only from time to time. The issue of physical education of schoolchildren as a system of universal mandatory education of the basics of health and hygienic education is currently being put on the agenda of the teacher's work. The purpose of the research is to determine the attitude of students of grades 9-11 to volleyball classes outside of class and to involve them in group work on physical education. The research concept is based on the theoretical and scientific-methodical levels of the basic provisions of the theory and methodology of physical education and pedagogy, the regularities of the development of extracurricular work on physical culture. The research was conducted at Lyceum No. 8 in the city of Zhytomyr in 2023-2024 in which 183 students of grades 9-11 who attend physical education classes took part. Research methods used: analysis of literary sources, observations, interviews, questionnaires, methods of mathematical statistics. It was established that 16.1% of ninth graders know the rules of volleyball, 57.8% among tenth graders and 56.9% of eleventh graders, which indicates a high level of preparation of students in volleyball and their volleyball practice in middle classes. Among the students of the ninth grade, 8.1% attended volleyball training classes, and 6.9% participated in school and extracurricular competitions, among the students of the tenth and eleventh grades, trained: 28.9% and 23.5%; participated in competitions: 22.2% and 27.5%, respectively. 13.8% of ninth graders, 20.0% of tenth graders, and 29.4% of eleventh graders expressed a desire and are ready to improve their skills.
