Relations between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran at the present stage

Abstract

For several centuries, the interests of Russia and Iran have been intersecting in the Caucasus, mainly in the border areas of the region. In the 17th century territorial disputes were conducted for this area, state borders changed. However, in the 20th century, relations between the countries stabilized, and it makes sense to take the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the conflict between East and West as the starting point of the study. Separately, Iran's position on Russia's Special Military Operation (SMO) in Ukraine and how this conflict has affected the bilateral relations of the states will be considered.
