WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTION AS A COMPONENT OF THE FOOD SECURITY SYSTEM

Abstract

Introduction. The article examines the infl uence of organizations in the fi eld of wholesale distribution on the physical and economic availability of food products. Currently, the domestic food market is undergoing a number of changes affecting the achievement of an acceptable level of food assortment of high-quality and safe consumer goods. Despite the high level of self-suffi ciency in agricultural products, there is a threat to food security due to the existing system of ensuring the availability of produced resources to end consumers. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the positive impact of the activities of distribution companies on the dynamics of food trade within the country, strengthening the economy and food security in general. Methodology. Studying wholesale distribution as a component of the food security system was based on the methods of logical statistical analysis. The study was based on data from Federal State Statistics Service. Results. The research included calculation, analysis and assessment of self-suffi ciency level in agricultural products. Furthermore, we identifi ed the share of participation of wholesale distribution organizations in the turnover of food products. Proposals aimed at supporting the activities of wholesale distribution organizations were presented. Conclusions. The creation of favorable conditions for the movement of food products within the country can cause a positive effect in terms of import substitution. The development of commodity fl ows of products carried out by distributors may provide the state to more effectively regulate commodity and fi nancial fl ows in the domestic food market.
