Abstract
The article is devoted to a review of cognitive theories and studies of negations in speech, and also the article presents our psycholinguistic empirical study of the evaluation of negations. Cognitive psychology shows a longer processing of negative phrases compared to affirmative ones. There are several explanations for this phenomenon. Our empirical research has shown that negative phrases are evaluated as negative (unpleasant). We tried to present these results as a possible additional cause that may affect the longer processing of negations.
