Abstract

Purpose: This article delves into the formation of professional competence in future border guard officers of canine units at a military educational institution, focusing on the training programs and methodologies aimed at preparing these officers for effective work with canine units.   Methods: The study examines the specialized training programs and methodologies utilized to equip future officers with essential skills in dog handling, scent detection, search and rescue operations, obedience training, and tactical deployment. It emphasizes the significance of developing competence in these areas to enhance border control operations involving canines.   Results and discussion: By analyzing the specific training approaches of military educational institutions, this study sheds light on the methods employed in preparing future border guard officers, underscoring the necessity of a comprehensive and specialized training regimen for optimal performance in canine unit operations.   Implications of the research: The findings of this study contribute to refining training practices and fostering the development of competent canine unit officers within the military framework, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of border control operations.   Originality/value: This research adds value by offering insights into the tailored training methodologies essential for nurturing professional competence in future border guard officers of canine units, highlighting the critical role of specialized knowledge and skills in ensuring successful canine-assisted operations in border security.
