Abstract
Objective: This research analyzes the digital inclusion indicators of older adults in Mexico, regarding the use of ICT. Well, currently there are older people who are unaware of the use of digital tools, and due to the SARS-COV-2 virus pandemic, social distancing generated considerable changes in their lives, since they had to temporarily suspend their work, recreational and leisure activities. , decreasing family and social contact. This study aims to substantiate the importance of generating and promoting digital inclusion programs for older people, which allow promoting social integration, contributing to personal development and reducing the digital age gap
Theoretical Framework: The study analyzes concepts of inclusion, elements of the digital divide, as well as the characteristics of adulthood, the importance of digital usability in older adults, cybersecurity in older adults, technical support, design adaptability, improvement of physical infrastructure and digital, as well as the importance of public policies in digital inclusion.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The methodology used in this research was a mixed approach, since the ENDUTIH (2022) census information was used to obtain data on the availability and use of information and communications technologies in homes, determine and construct the variables. relevant information that will allow the processing of information to analyze the problem and provide recommendations and suggestions for the problem under study.
Findings: Based on data from ENDUTIH (2022), referring to ICT use indicators, such as the computer, cell phone and internet, they reflect that older adults aged 60 and over do not know how to use technology, are not interested or They don't need it. Which is related to where they live, because people who live in rural areas have less access to the internet compared to those who live in urban areas. This phenomenon is directly related to the insufficient coverage and availability of telecommunications infrastructure, since there are still areas of difficult access, which prevent investments by individuals or the existence of public or private service providers.
Research, Practical and Social Implications: The identification of factors that impact digital inclusion and their use will have an important social impact because this age group will be able to take advantage of the benefits of ICT and have different activities that allow them to use different digital platforms. By having better communication with their families and social groups, greater independence, they will be able to foster intergenerational relationships, access to information of interest, carry out different personal procedures (paying bills, medical appointments), online education options, entertainment activities , among others.
Originality/Value: The present research work shows how ICT impacts the digital divide in order to identify the elements that influence digital inclusion and its use, which will have a significant impact for older adults who are in a stage where learning of ICT is something new and innovative for them.
