Abstract

Theoretical Framework: Occupational accidents with exposure to biological material (ATMB) occur when the worker is exposed to blood or secretions through the skin, mucous membrane or sharp injuries and need to be reported.   Method: Descriptive retrospective quantitative study with data obtained from DATASUS, using the variables: age group, sex, education, situation in the labor market, use of PPE, part of the body exposed to biological material, circumstance of exposure, causative agent, situation vaccination for Hepatitis B, occupation and serology.   Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that 986 cases of ATMB were reported in the years 2021 to 2022 in the city of São Luís, of which the age group was 20 to 34 years old (48.8%), female (77, 9%), of mixed race (59.8%), with complete secondary education (49.1%), nursing technicians (53.1%) were the most affected. Circumstances identified as Others (19.3%) and inadequate disposal on the floor (11.7%) were present in high numbers. The other variables were compromised due to the way they were filled out, resulting in 100% of information being ignored and/or blank.   Conclusion: Incomplete completion of notifications makes it impossible to analyze the information necessary for more effective actions to reduce and prevent cases of ATMB.
