Abstract
This paper presents the simulation of two geomechanical tests on Bedford limestone samples using a single-phase flow model of a slightly compressible fluid in a poroelastic medium. The objective of the test is to analyze, the behavior of the absolute permeabilty of a completely saturated porous medium, under to a different stress conditions. A brief review of the literature on simulation, geomechanical tests is presented. The experimental conditions of the hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic compression tests, samples properties, saturation conditions and the results obtained are described. Additionally, the mathematical model used for the simulation is presented, briefly explaining the mathematical formulation, the initial and boundary conditions, the numerical discretization and computational implementation, as well as a validation model. Finally, the application is presented in some case studies, showing the initial and boundary conditions on each test, the characteristics of the simulation, the correlation models and the results of the porosity and permeability behavior.
