Abstract

Jean-Marie-Camille Méhu (1835-1887) was a French physician and pharmacist who studied first principles in plants, particularly in small knapweed and canchalagua, and determined that their active component was erythro-centaurin; studied the methods for the dosage of albumin and found that the best one was based on using an alcoholic solution of acetic acid and phenol. He also studied and found the best procedure to prepare phosphorated oils, so that they contained a known amount of phosphorus. Méhu developed an improved version of Marchand’s lacto-butyrometer for determining the amount of butter present in milk.
