Abstract

The construction industry is undergoing a digital transformation that requires changes to traditional business processes. This transformation involves the use of digital models, which necessitates a shift in communication practices among construction partners. All participants in the construction process must have an interactive overview of construction progress and changes at any given time, which creates new challenges such as data protection, responsibility, and competence for construction changes. This research highlights the need for construction companies to change their business processes to accommodate the use of digital models. It emphasizes the importance of effective communication among all parties involved in the construction process, including contractors, subcontractors, and management. The study suggests that resistance to change is a significant barrier to the implementation of digital models, which is often caused by a lack of understanding of the benefits they bring in the long run. The research also identifies communication problems as a major challenge, including issues related to data redundancy and information sharing. Resistance to change management is mainly reflected in the resistance of management to change communication processes, which leads to a change in culture. Implementation of digital models requires a change in the construction industry's culture, which involves a shift in established practices and processes. The study recommends mapping the BIM information solution into the context of ERP systems used by construction companies to ensure successful digitization of the construction industry.
