Abstract

Today, renewable energy technologies have been gaining attention more than ever result of the environmental and atmospheric destructive influences of fossil fuels. Renewable energy resources should be taken into account for the strategic opportunities that enable countries to improve their quality of life. Renewable energy resources, such as photovoltaic, solar, tide, wind, and hydrogen energies are still under development period. Due to economic and technological growth and getting increased population, energy consumption is getting higher every year. Renewable energy will also contribute to energy security issues. Turkeys energy consumption is dependent on expensive imported fossil energies and they have significant impacts on the domestic economy and air pollution. So green energy resources appear to be the most important remedies for clean and sustainable energy in Turkey. Indeed, Turkey is a rich country in terms of natural resources. Unfortunately, the consumpted energy in the world as well as Turkey is still mostly based on fossil-based fuels. Accordingly, this article aims to summarize the current energy consumption in Turkey by giving an overview of the situation of energy resources in the world and Turkey.
