Abstract
Abstract
The thermal effects of benzene on various rubber films are correlated with the polar and oil-resisting properties of rubber. By means of quantitative experiments on these effects, natural crude rubber was proved to be a non-polar material; purification, vulcanization, mastication, irradiation by ultra-violet rays, and chlorination increase the polarity of rubber. Synthetic films show small thermal effects because of the high polar properties and the compactness of structure of the films.
