Abstract
Abstract
For elastomer/elastomer blends in which the dispersed phase has a lower modulus than the matrix, it was shown that the phases are mechanically coupled in a simple parallel manner. Once the stress behavior of each blend component, cured separately, is known as a function of both strain and state of cure, the properties of the blend phases can be resolved unequivocally. This modelling technique, as applied to a 70/30 blend of NR/CIIR, showed that in this blend, curative migration increases the modulus of the NR phase by a factor of three.
