Abstract
Abstract
In many important applications, an elastomer is subjected to repeated deformations of sufficient magnitude and frequency to lead to generation of considerable heat and (depending on the rate of heat removal) of a significant rise in temperature. The purpose of this review is to examine the mechanisms of heat generation and to indicate some important effects arising in service. More detailed discussion of various aspects of heat generation, dynamic properties, and viscoelasticity of rubber compounds may be found elsewhere.
