Abstract
Nitrile compounds have been developed which have excellent sour gasoline resistance. The compounds are cured with a mixed urethane/sulfur (80/20) crosslinking system. After 6 weeks aging in sour gasoline, the physical properties of the urethane cured nitriles were still superior to the best sulfur-cured nitrile and epichlorohydrin compounds which had been tested for 3 weeks. Heat resistance of the urethane-cured compounds is not as good as the sulfur-cured compounds; however, it is anticipated that the new compounds can meet the current temperature requirements for the fuel hose tube.
