Abstract
Housing selection decision is a complex problem that varies according to the region and needs and has many alternatives. This study was carried out to prioritize the criteria for the selection of housing to be purchased in Akçay (Balıkesir), which is a touristic town. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision making techniques, was used in the analysis of the study. 4 criteria and 15 sub-criteria affecting the housing selection were determined. Expert opinion (real estate agent) was taken while prioritizing the criteria. As a result of the study, the primary criterion that is effective in the selection of housing to be purchased in Akçay has been environmental characteristics. The sub-criterion was the proximity to the sea. The second important criterion was financial characteristics. Price was the sub-criterion. This study will guide the housing producers, real estate agents, real estate experts and consultants who take an active role in the housing sector in meeting the needs and expectations of those who want to buy a house and contribute to the literature.
