1. 1. Charles S. Kubik(1891 ) A well-known neuropathologist and neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, U.S.A.
2. 3. Joseph Godwin Greenfield(1884 -1958) First ‘professional’ pathologist at the National Hospital, Queen Square, London. He is best known for his work on diffuse sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and metachromatic leucodystrophy. His pioneering textbook onPathology of the Nervous System(together with E. Farquhar Buzzard) was published in 1921 while the first edition ofGreenfield's Neuropathologywas published in 1958, almost ten years after his retirement.
3. 4. Symonds CharlesPutnam(1890 -1978) An outstanding neurologist, published on a variety of topics, including head injury and brain abscesses. His main affiliation during 1920-1955 was with Guy's Hospital, London, (seeGuy's Hospital Reports105: 1-150, 1956). A compilation of Sir Charles Putnam Symond's work,Studies in Neurology, was published by Oxford University Press in 1970.

Gordon Holmes(1876 -1967) Trained on the continent with Edinger, von Monakow and Wallenberg before joining the National Hospital, Queen Square, London, as a pathologist and Director of Research in 1904, a position he held until his retirement in 1941. Best known for his pioneering work on the cortical representation of vision and on sensory disturbances from cerebral lesions (seeA Tribute to Sir Gordon Holmes, by CD. Aring and D. Denny-Brown,J Nerv Mental Diseases141: 497-504, 1965).
