1. 1. Meynert Theodor (1833 ) Professor of Psychiatry in Vienna, Austria, and "father" of 19th century brain research. August Forel learned the dissection technique (Abfaserung-stechnik) for the identification of fiber tracts in Meynert's laboratory. Sigmund Freud also spent some time with Meynert in 1883, before getting involved in neurology and neuropathology.
2. 2. Rolland Romain (1866 ) Famous French writer and enthusiastic fighter for justice and world peace. He won the Nobel prize in 1915.
3. 3. Burgholzli (Castle Hill) was and still is the site of the Zurich State Psychiatric Hospital. It is situated on the south hills of the city of Zurich, Switzerland.
4. 4. "Labor omnia vincit" (Labor conquers all) was one of August Forel's supreme principles.
5. 5. Baha'i religion was founded in 1851 by the Iranian, Baha O'llah. Many western intellectuals were known to have joined this religious group.
