Regional inequalities and the impact of ‘matching technology’ on the arrival rate of employment offers: A theoretical and empirical analysis

Abstract

AbstractIn this paper a ‘search and matching’ framework is used to examine the impact of advances in information technology on regional inequalities. While the relevant literature analyses the impact of technological progress with respect to changes in regional productivity, we take an alternative perspective: changes in the arrival rate of job offers and employment opportunities. Simulation experiments complement the theoretical framework, while some empirical evidence using a sample of NUTS 2 and NUTS 3 regions in Europe, is also presented.
