Abstract

AbstractIn this paper we aim to critically discuss the challenges and benefits of using survey instruments (SIs) by measuring human resource management (HRM) parameters across five emerging markets – Brunei Darussalam, India, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. In so doing, we proceed to an assessment of the measurement invariance of HRM parameters measured by SIs across these five countries. Based on our field experience and empirical results showing lack of measurement invariance across these five national contexts, we provide recommendations for conducting comparative analysis of HRM parameters in emerging markets, ultimately contributing to the HRM convergence–divergence debate in this type of national context.
