Atraumatic Osteonecrosis of the Humeral Head Associated with Pregnancy

Abstract

Osteonecrosis is usually associated with trauma, the use of corticosteroids or alchohol abuse. Osteonecrosis associated with pregnancy has been reported previously and usually involves the femoral head. A case of atraumatic osteonecrosis of the humeral head precipitated by pregnancy is described. This is the second reported case of osteonecrosis of the humerus associated with pregnancy. Osteonecrosis and its association with pregnancy is reviewed.
