Abstract

Background Arthroscopic subacromial decompression and acromio-clavicular joint excision are two of the most commonly performed arthroscopic shoulder procedures. Methods In the present study, we prospectively evaluated the timing of return to work and driving following these procedures in a British population. Results Median time of returning to work was 22 days (range 2 days to 72 days). Median time of returning to driving was 14 days (range 2 days to 70 days). Ninety percent of patients returned to work by 6 weeks and to driving by 4 weeks. Discussion The results obtained suggest that most patients having arthroscopic subacromial decompression or acromio-clavicular joint excision will return to work and driving by 6 weeks post surgery.
