On the 9th and 16th of December, 1993, The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Board (MOSH) of the Maryland Department of Licensing and Regulations, held public hearings respectively in Crownsville and Frederick, Maryland, regarding proposed regulations prohibiting smoking in a place of employment. One of us (Repace) testified at the Crownsville hearing by invitation, presenting the basic information described in our recent paper. "A Tobacco Institute panel which included the vice president and general counsel for the Philip Morris cigarette company, and the chief lobbyist for the tobacco industry in Maryland, also testified at both hearings, in opposition to the proposed regulations. As a part of this panel, Mr. Simon Turner testified in opposition to the proposed restrictions on smoking," at the request and expense of the Tobacco Institute "at both hearings, and Dr. Larry Holcomb similarly testified at the second one .
