Abstract

AbstractObjectiveThe objective of this study was to compare, evaluate and manage abdominal trauma using two distinct surgical techniques: laparoscopy and laparotomy. The aim was to assess the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic procedures compared with laparotomy for treating penetrating or blunt abdominal trauma.MethodologyIn this prospective comparative study, we recruited 60 patients clinically diagnosed with abdominal trauma. The research was conducted at the Emergency Unit of the Department of General Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Aswan University Hospital. All participants provided signed informed consent before their inclusion in the study.ResultsThere was a significant statistical difference between the two groups in terms of the operation duration, length of stay in the intensive care unit post‐operatively, occurrence of gas passage and duration of hospitalisation.ConclusionsLaparoscopic surgical procedures present a viable and practical alternative to laparotomy in appropriate cases for patients. The decision to choose laparoscopy as a surgical approach should depend on the surgeon's proficiency and the availability of required resources.
