The Morphology and Anatomy of the Leaf of Podophyllum Peltatum L.

Abstract

Abstract A brief review of the history of Podophyllum peltatum L. is given, together with an illustrated account of the macroscopical and anatomical structure of the leaf. The diagnostic characters of the powdered leaves are recorded and compared with those previously reported for Podophyllum hexandrum Royle. To distinguish the leaves of the two species in powder form, recourse must be made to palisade ratios: for P. peltatum, the values are 7·0–8·5–12·16–17, and for P. hexandrum, 4·0–4·96-7·68-11·25.
