Abstract
This is a review of certain recent advances in the study of the physiological mechanisms that mediate color perception. Data obtained from studies of the function of single nerve cells are emphasized. Also emphasized are those areas in which a consensus of opinion exists. Of particular significance are recent findings on the spectral sensitivity of single photoreceptors and on the central interactions that modify signals originating in the photoreceptors.
