Abstract
Psammogeton suchaniense sp. nov. (Apiaceae; Pimpinelleae), found in arid, sandy areas of district Samba of Jammu and Kashmir, north‐west India, is described and illustrated. It shares similarities with P. biternatus and P. canescens, but differs from these species in that it has a reduced peduncle, axillary and terminal umbels, unequal bracts, bracteoles and hairy mericarps and fewer rays per inflorescence. A thorough description, photographs, a map of the collection site, an identification key to all Indian species of Psammogeton and a table with the morphological features of related species are all presented.
