Abstract
The existence of interchromosomal effects has been tested in four segregating families of the grasshopper Eyprepocnemis plorans carrying the same translocation. The comparisons between the mean chiasma frequencies in the translocation heterozygotes and the standard homozygotes have revealed different responses, depending on the family: both significant increases and decreases in those bivalents not involved in the translocation have been found. A dependence of interchromosomal effects on genetic background is suggested.Key words: translocation, chiasma frequency, interchromosomal effect.
