Abstract
The cross section for the O16(γ, n)O15 reaction has been determined by detecting the emitted neutrons, and the cross section for the O18(γ, p)N17 reaction has been determined by detecting the delayed neutrons following the decay of the N17 nucleus. Both cross sections exhibit a slowly rising portion for some 3 Mev. above threshold, followed by the usual large resonance shaped curve. This anomalous behavior is discussed in the light of present photonuclear theories.
