Abstract
Hysterothylacium analarum n. sp. is described from Lepomis gibbosus (Linnaeus) in Lake St. Nora and Dawson Pond, Ontario (45°09′ N, 78°50′ W). It is distinguished from Hysterothylacium brachyurum Ward &Magath, 1917, the species it most closely resembles by the absence of lateral alae, more numerous spines on the distal extremity of the tail, and relatively more prominent cephalic interlabia. A review of reports of Hysterothylacium spp. from North American freshwater fishes indicates that species have been confused in the literature.
