Abstract
The generalized rotation–vibration interaction problem for deformed even nuclei whose surface can be well represented by a single order spherical harmonic Yλ,μ has been solved for all λ. The conditions which allow the resulting Schrödinger equation to separate into rotation and vibration parts is stated and approximate solution for the latter is given which depends upon the rotational energy eigenvalues, [Formula: see text]. A graphical method for obtaining the energy eigenvalues of the interacting system for all values of λ is developed which is accurate to about 1% and is applied to the positive and negative parity levels of Th288. A table of the [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text] necessary for the negative parity calculations is appended.
