Abstract
The magnetic susceptibilities and electron spin resonance spectra of solid solutions of cesium hexachlororhodate(IV) in a diamagnetic host lattice were examined over a range of temperatures. The Landé splitting parameter, g, was found to be 1.7545 ± 0.0005. This led to an orbital delocalization factor of 0.81 and a spin-orbit coupling parameter of 554 cm−1. The susceptibility measurements failed to reveal any superexchange in the lattice but the electron spin resonance spectra gave some evidence for such coupling. Powder samples only were examined and these exhibited no hyperfine structure.
