Abstract
Modified fibroblasts (L–M cells), grown in suspension cultures, contain a microsomal enzyme system that can synthesize alkyl ether bonds from long-chain fatty alcohols and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate or dihydroxyacetone phosphate. Essential cofactors for the formation of alkyl ether bonds are ATP, CoA, and Mg2+.
