Abstract
The abundance of individual strains of Xanthomonas, Erwinia, and Rhizobium added to soil was determined by a method that allows for the enumeration of surviving cells of the introduced population in the presence of many other soil microorganisms. The method should be useful for measuring numbers of other bacteria in heterogeneous communities.
